Happy Summer Region V!

I am excited to start a new year as the NIRSA Regional Lead – and I am even more excited to welcome all of our new State Representatives for the next year! Please keep reading if you want to see more information about those leaders, updates on our Region V Conference in October 2024, and committee opportunities in Region V.

It was great to see many of you in Phoenix at the Annual Conference and shout out to all of our award winners and scholarship recipients – we loved being able to celebrate you at the conference! Hopefully our wonderful regional network will be able to connect even more at our Regional Conference in October 2024!

Welcome Owen Woodman – our new Region V Student Leader!

Owen is going in to his Senior year at University of Colorado – Boulder in the Leeds School of Business pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Operations Management & Strategy and Entrepreneurship. Owen’s ultimate goal is to pursue a career in operations for commercial recreation or an athletic organizations. Owen currently serves as a Facility Supervisor and the Aquatics & Ice Rink Student Coordinator for Recreation Services at CU-Boulder.

We are so excited to have Owen as part of the Member Network and being our Region V Student Leader!

The work you would be doing

EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS

  1. Recruit quality presenters across all competency and topic areas through an open call process and direct recruitment as needed.
  2. Committee members will serve as reviewers during review process.
  3. Peer reviewers are expected to provide constructive critique of the presentation proposals.
  4. Review all recruited and submitted proposals from the review teams and select those to be included in the conference program.
  5. Recruit additional presenters for areas that may need more content after educational session proposal deadline.
  6. Serves in an advisory role as Region V Conference Planning Committee slots sessions into the daily presentation “grid” of rooms/times.

KEYNOTE AND INVITED SPEAKERS

  1. Conduct research regarding potential keynote and other invited speakers and surface potential speaker names.
  2. Make recommendations to Planning Committee Chair staff within budget parameters for keynote and other invited speakers.

INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMING

  1. Develop & propose ideas for replacing/refreshing existing education programs where needed. Explore new program ideas.

POST EVENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engage in a debrief meeting to review evaluation, providing feedback to the Chair. The Chair is responsible for submitting a committee report making any recommendations to processes and content development for future events.

CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE

  1. It is highly preferred that members of this committee can attend the Region V Conference with the understanding that doing so is at their own expense.
